You need reasonably healthy teeth and gums to start; grinding habits need a protection plan first. If a single tooth is the issue, we may recommend bonding or a single crown instead. The process at our Rancho Bernardo office is exciting and collaborative. You preview your new smile in a digital design and again in temporary veneers you wear for a week or two, road testing the look before the porcelain is made. Preparation visits are comfortable and numb, and the final bonding appointment ends with the reveal, a moment patients never forget. Expect people to tell you that you look great without being able to say exactly why. That is the mark of veneers done right.
Typically three visits across three to four weeks. First, a design consultation with photos, digital scans, and smile planning. Second, gentle preparation and placement of temporary veneers you evaluate in real life for a week or two. Third, the bonding appointment where your final porcelain is placed, usually two to three hours for a full smile. Minor adjustments happen the same day, and you leave with the finished result.
Veneers are a long term commitment; prepared enamel always needs a veneer covering it, so plan for replacement every 15 to 20 years with good care. If you grind at night, a custom night guard is mandatory to protect your investment, porcelain is strong but not indestructible. Avoid using your front teeth as tools, opening packages or biting fishing line. Choose your shade thoughtfully with our guidance; whiter than your eyes reads artificial, and we will keep you natural.
There is essentially no downtime. Mild gum tenderness and temperature sensitivity for a few days after bonding are normal and fade on their own. While wearing temporaries, avoid very hard or sticky foods and expect a slightly rougher feel; the finals are silk smooth. Once bonded, you eat normally the same day, brush and floss as usual, and return for a quick polish and bite check within a couple of weeks.
