Uncontrolled diabetes and smoking lower success rates, so we address those honestly during planning. Age alone is almost never a barrier; we place implants for patients in their eighties.
With 3D guided planning, placement is calmer and gentler than most patients imagine, and many compare the appointment to a routine filling. You are numbed completely, the guided placement itself often takes under an hour, and most people are back at work the next day. While the implant heals, you are never left without a tooth in a visible area; we provide a temporary. The day your final crown is attached, it simply feels like your tooth is back.
Plan on three to six months from placement to final crown for a typical case. The surgery itself is often under an hour, followed by roughly three to four months of quiet healing while the bone integrates, then two short visits to attach the final crown. Expect mild swelling and soreness for two to four days, usually handled well with ibuprofen and ice. Stick to soft foods for the first week, chew away from the site, avoid straws and vigorous rinsing for 48 hours, and skip strenuous exercise for two or three days. Most patients return to work the next day. Stitches dissolve or are removed within two weeks. We check the site at follow up visits, and the integration period after that is completely uneventful for most people.
